Vintage creative (Sosaku) kokeshi doll set by the acclaimed artist Aida Seihou (Harumine) 1926–1998 is titled "Sisters" (姉妹, Shimai), as written on the original box label. The pair features a taller and shorter doll, capturing a serene sibling bond through minimalist, elegant faces with glossy black bob haircuts. Their matching kimonos display a striking, textured red-and-black bark finish, beautifully accented by delicate, carved white blossom details. A wonderful collectible set complete with its original artist-sealed box.

Artistic Note
Aida Seihou’s work beautifully connects traditional Japanese kokeshi craft with mid-century modern design. Instead of using heavy paint, he lets the natural wood grain bring the doll to life. The standout feature of this piece is the "chattering" technique used on the crown and the offset topknot (mage). This hand-chiseled, rhythmic texture adds a rich, tactile feel to the hair, creating a stunning contrast against the perfectly smooth face and the sharp, clean lines of the kimono.

  • Size (approx.): 19 cm and 14,5 cm
  • Condition: Very good vintage condition with some signs of wear at the head parts of the dools (please see images for details). Otherwise no noticable scratches. The pair comes with its original presentation box. The box bottom features a some notes, possibly from previous Japanese owner, not related to the kokeshi.
