This vintage leaf-shaped wooden brooch is a handcrafted piece of Ainu folk art from Hokkaido, Japan. Featuring traditional, intricate swirl (moreu) and floral carvings highlighted with cream and terracotta inlays, it captures the indigenous nature-inspired aesthetic of northern Japan.
Origin: Hokkaido, Japan (Ainu craft)
Markings: Signed by the artisan (市川) and dated 1991 on the back (H.3.5.22 / May 22, Heisei 3 [1991])
Materials: Carved natural wood, inlay/pigment, metal pin clasp with safety rollover
Condition: very good vintage condition.
