This beautiful Sosaku (Creative) Kokeshi is a masterpiece by the highly acclaimed artist Kazuo Takamizawa, a recipient of the prestigious Prime Minister’s Prize.
Reflecting his vibrant style, the body is finely decorated with rich colours. The kimono showcases a stunning contrast of deep blues and warm harvest oranges, with textured patterns achieved through expert wood-incising techniques. This blend of bold color and traditional woodworking, topped with a serene, minimalist face, makes the piece a perfect representation of the creative diversity that defined the Sosaku movement. The doll features the iconic "Okapa" style, characterized by a charming black bob haircut. This classic hairstyle is meticulously rendered with a separate "Mage" (topknot) piece.
