The doll features a large, bobbed hairstyle defined by deep, rhythmic carvings that give it a rich tactile quality. The cylindrical body is decorated with simple horizontal lathe-cut lines. With its minimalist facial features and unpainted finish, the piece highlights the artist's focus on texture and form.
Condition: Great vintage condition with no major signs of wear (please see images for details). Minor scratch at the head (please see images for details).
Artisan Note
Kenichi Murakami was a celebrated artist from Yamagata Prefecture and a winner of the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award. Originally a painter, he turned to woodworking in the 1940s and became famous for his "Sosaku" (creative) kokeshi. His work is recognized for its simplicity and purity, often using deep carving and wood-burning to capture a sense of serenity and unspoiled character without the need for color.
