This vintage Sosaku kokeshi doll by the celebrated artist Hajime Miyashita (1940-2006) はじめ宮下 (1940 - 2006), known for his refined and expressive style. The piece is titled "Hana no Kaori," which translates to "Scent of a Flower".
Carved from solid wood, the doll features a slender, elongated silhouette draped in a deep black kimono. The body is elegantly hand-painted with vibrant red blossoms and green foliage, capturing the essence of spring and a delicate floral fragrance.
Miyashita studied traditional kokeshi under master Kobayashi Kichitaro and began his Sosaku career in 1959. Over the years, he received numerous prestigious awards, including the Prime Minister’s Award. His works were also acquired by members of the Japanese Imperial family
