Creative kokeshi by artisan Hajime Miyashita 宮下はじめ (1940 - 2006) portrays the Edo-era master poet Matsuo Bashō. Moving away from traditional cylindrical forms, the sculpture presents the figure as an elderly wanderer, gently stooped over a walking stick with a travel hat at his side. The design relies on exposed natural wood grain highlighted by minimal black and white brushwork, conveying a sense of quiet contemplation and simplicity.
