This elegant vintage kokeshi doll was created by the renowned Sosaku artist Hajime Miyashita, known for his refined and expressive style. The figure has a cylindrical body and a large, rounded head with visible wood grain. The face features closed eyes with fine black lashes and a small red mouth. The hairstyle is stylized, with symmetrical side sections resembling pigtails. The body is painted in a red color with repeating geometric patterns.
Miyashita studied traditional kokeshi under master Kobayashi Kichitaro and began his Sosaku career in 1959. Over the years, he received numerous prestigious awards, including the Prime Minister’s Award. His works were also acquired by members of the Japanese Imperial family.
Condition: Good vintage condition, there is some age-related wear like some nicks/scratches for example at the area of the forehead of kokeshi. Some colour fading is present. The glue residudes are slightly visible in the neck area and between the head and pigtail. Please review the photos carefully for details.
