This wallet is made using Hakata-ori (博多織) silk fabric. The exterior features a classic Hakata-ori striped pattern in deep vermilion red with black and subtly raised woven motifs. The wallet is framed with a metal clasp closure, decorated with a fine engraved pattern, and opens wide for easy access. Inside, the lining is a deep, dark tone, with structured compartments suitable for coins and small personal items.
Hakata-ori (博多織) is a traditional Japanese textile from Fukuoka, known for its tightly woven, stiff silk fabric with geometric patterns. Originally used for obi (kimono sashes), it combines durability with elegant design, often featuring Buddhist motifs like stripes and floral crests. The craft has over 770 years of history and is recognized as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan.
