This small Hakata-ori gamaguchi coin purse is a refined example of traditional Japanese craftsmanship. Made from 100% silk, it features an elegant woven pattern enhanced with gold and silver threads, characteristic of high-grade Hakata-ori textiles.
Hakata-ori is a renowned weaving tradition from Fukuoka, valued for its durability, crisp texture, and sophisticated designs. This piece combines functionality with understated luxury, making it suitable for daily use or as a collectible accessory.
The purse is fitted with a classic metal clasp (gamaguchi) and comes with its original wooden presentation box. The interior is in excellent condition. Please note that the wooden box shows minor damage due to storage, which does not affect the coin purse itself (see photos).

Hakata-ori (博多織) is a traditional Japanese textile from Fukuoka, known for its tightly woven, stiff silk fabric with geometric patterns. Originally used for obi (kimono sashes), it combines durability with elegant design, often featuring Buddhist motifs like stripes and floral crests. The craft has over 770 years of history and is recognized as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan.
Condition:
Good vintage condition overall. Please note that there are some minor stains on the interior (visible in the photos). The wooden storage box shows light wear and small areas of damage, consistent with age and use (see photos).
