Japanese beaded bag in a dark purple and lavender palette. It features a detailed floral pattern made of tiny glass beads, a metall frame with a classic kiss-lock clasp, and a flexible beaded handle that can be tucked inside. The interior is lined with smooth, light lavender fabric and includes two small slip pockets.
Most vintage Japanese beaded bags date back to the late 1950s through the 1970s, a period when they became highly popular after Princess Michiko carried one for her 1959 wedding. The bags were handmade by skilled kimono and obi belts embroiderers who used a special technique of sewing glass seed with waxed thread to make the structure extra strong. Made with high-quality, uniform Japanese glass beads, these bags are known for keeping their shape and shine over decades.
