This is a vintage Japanese Sosaku (creative) Kokeshi doll titled "Kaguya-hime" (Princess Kaguya), crafted by the award-winning artisan Sekiguchi Toa (born 1942).
Handcrafted from solid wood, this rounded, oval-form doll captures the essence of the legendary Moon Princess from Japanese folklore. The piece features a stylized silhouette with smooth black hair framing a calm, natural-wood face with delicate hand-painted facial features. Her body is decorated with subtle hand-carved details and muted green, metallic gold, and soft pink pigments depicting blossoming motifs on a flowing kimono.

The son of the legendary Sansaku Sekiguchi, Toa has won numerous prestigious accolades, including the Prime Minister’s Award. He is celebrated for his painterly skill, using vibrant vermillion, black, and gold tones on native dogwood to blend traditional woodwork with modern, expressive artistry.
