Crafted with a deep respect for organic materials, this Japanese creative (Sosaku) kokeshi duo is created by the famous master Chiyomatsu Kano (b. 1935) and titled "Hanano Shojo". This pair highlights the master woodworker's talent for letting natural grain complement sleek, modern forms. Soft, serene features (painted with single-stroke closed eyes) give both figures a peaceful character. Smooth cylindrical bodies transition into subtly textured lower bases, while delicately rendered bangs top their rounded heads. The underside of each figure features the craftsman's authentic signature seal.
Artisan Note
Handcrafted by Chiyomatsu Kano, a highly celebrated master of creative kokeshi who earned the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award multiple times throughout his career. Beginning his craft in the early 1950s, Kano specialized in working with woods like beech and birch, combining subtle carved textures with minimalist painted details. His work gracefully bridges classic Japanese heritage with mid-century modern design, making his rare pieces sought-after items among global collectors.
