This pair of vintage Sosaku Kokeshi dolls created by the famous master Kenichi Murakami (1929–1991) けんー村上 features a minimalist, unpainted design that emphasizes the natural grain and warmth of the wood. Each doll is sculpted with a large, round head and a tapered body, detailed only with delicate pyrographed (wood-burned) features. Their faces show sweet, closed eyes and a small indented mouth, while their bodies are detailed with a simple, cozy winter scarf.

Artisan Note
Kenichi Murakami was a celebrated artist from Yamagata Prefecture and a winner of the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award. Originally a painter, he turned to woodworking in the 1940s and became famous for his "Sosaku" (creative) kokeshi. His work is recognized for its simplicity and purity, often using deep carving and wood-burning to capture a sense of serenity and unspoiled character without the need for color.
