This is a vintage Japanese turned-wood kokeshi doll crafted in Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture. The design is inspired by the figure "Dekunobo" from the celebrated poem and literary work "Even If the Rain Does Not Stop" (Ame ni mo Makezu) by Kenji Miyazawa. The figure is sculpted wearing a wide-brimmed hat and an overcoat, posed with a subtle downcast posture and quiet expression. The head is mounted on a turned tenon neck joint that allows it to rotate freely to different angles.
