This vintage Sosaku Kokeshi is a refined interpretation of a Heian-period noblewoman by the artist Kon Akira (Seiju), b. 1931. The figure captures the specific elegance of high-ranking women who were celebrated for their education in the arts and poetry.
The noblewoman is dressed for travel in a rust-colored kimono accented with delicate blue and white flowers, partially shielded by a heavy outer garment to ward off the chill. A distinctive feature of this piece is the oversized traveling hat.
Size: approx. 14 cm
Condition: Overall very good vintage condition with just minor wear (please see images for details).
