This Japanese oval brooch is a stunning example of Kutani-yaki artistry. The deep colourful glaze creates a rich, almost translucent effect, with darker tones adding depth and a natural, organic feel. The back the brooch is fitted with a secure metal pin. Lightweight and versatile, they make an excellent accessory for both special occasions and everyday elegance.
Kutani ware is a prominent style of Japanese ceramics, named after the village where the first kiln was established. Originating in Ishikawa Prefecture, the name "Kutani" translates to "Nine Valleys," with its history tracing back to the mid-17th century. Rather than referring to a single factory, Kutani represents a region where numerous workshops produced ceramics under the Kutani name, each contributing to its rich and diverse heritage.
