This creative kokeshi doll is made by Masae Fujikawa 藤川正衛 (1942–2015). It features a warm, rich wood grain with a smooth, polished finish. The figure is styled with a distinct top bun and straight-cut bangs framing a calm, serene facial expression. Its tapered body is wrapped in a darker chestnut-toned wood layer, subtly carved with delicate botanical motifs depicting slender plant stalks and round leaves. A lighter wood accentuates the collar fold at the neck and forms the flat base, enhancing the piece's clean, balanced silhouette.

A prominent figure in Gunma Prefecture's creative kokeshi movement, Masae Fujikawa (1942–2015) honed his craft in woodturning from early youth before crafting dolls starting in the late 1950s. Renowned for his elegant proportions, immaculate finishing, and ability to blend subtle decorative detail with quiet serenity, he achieved top national acclaim, earning the prestigious Prime Minister's Award twice during his distinguished career.

Japanese kokeshi dolls are traditional wooden figures, first made by craftsmen in northern Japan over 150 years ago. Originally sold as souvenirs in hot spring towns, they were believed to bring good luck, protect children, and even serve as spiritual charms. Each kokeshi is hand-carved from wood, with a simple yet elegant shape—a round head and a straight, limbless body. They are often painted with floral or geometric patterns and have calm, minimalist facial features. Over time, kokeshi evolved from folk toys into collectible art pieces, with different regions creating their own unique styles and designs.
