Beautiful Japanese Creative doll "Ochiba" by female Master Masami Kato 加藤正美 (1925-2012). An elongated, slender wooden kokeshi with a dark plum, lustrous finish. The rounded head frames a pale, finely painted face with narrow eyes and wispy bangs, while the cylindrical body features delicate outlines of autumn leaves and an artist's red seal stamped beneath the base.

Artisan Note: Born in Narugo, Miyagi Prefecture—a historic center of traditional kokeshi carving—Masami Kato learned doll-making alongside her husband, traditional master Shinichi Kato. Blending classic Narugo craft with modern expressive freedom, she became a celebrated master in her own right, earning numerous prestigious honors, including the Prime Minister’s Award.
