This vintage creative Kokeshi doll was crafted by the renowned female artisan Kato Masami 加藤 正美 (1925-2012), it has a beautiful natural wood grain finish. The body features elegantly detailed plum blossoms, symbolizing the gentle warmth of spring. With its perfectly rounded head, minimalist facial features, and serene closed eyes, this piece captures a sense of quiet simplicity and traditional craftsmanship.

Artisan Note: Born in Narugo, Miyagi Prefecture—a historic center of traditional kokeshi carving—Masami Kato learned doll-making alongside her husband, traditional master Shinichi Kato. Blending classic Narugo craft with modern expressive freedom, she became a celebrated master in her own right, earning numerous prestigious honors, including the Prime Minister’s Award.
Condition: Great vintage condition with no major scratches or marks. A very tiny scratch on the face (please see images for details).
