This creative kokeshi is a masterful and very famous design titled 'Mushin' (Innocence) created by Master Masao Watanabe (1917-2007)

Artisan Note
Masao Watanabe is celebrated as one of Japan’s most influential kokeshi masters and a recipient of the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award. Born in Fukushima, Masao Watanabe was a disciple of the master Sato Tatsuo (Yajiro style). He became a pioneer of the creative kokeshi movement in the 1950s. His work is world-renowned for its emotional depth with pieces displayed in international institutions like the Nuremberg Toy Museum. Watanabe’s dolls are particularly famous for capturing the spirit of Mushin (innocence).
