This exceptional handcrafted wooden doll is a work of the highly acclaimed artist Miyajima Muhitsu (born 1929, Yamagata Prefecture). After beginning his career in traditional Kokeshi, Miyajima-san became a pioneer of the "Sosaku" (creative) movement in the 1950s. His mastery culminated in receiving the highest possible honor, the Prime Minister’s Award, in 1973.
