This unique Takobozu Kokeshi doll is a classic example of the Nakanosawa style within the traditional Tsuchiyu family. It features an distinctive oversized head and has wide, expressive "surprised eyes", circled by the signature reddish-pink blush that defines this humorous "Takobozu" (octopus face) style. The slender wooden body of the doll is meticulously hand-painted with intricate red and black peonies and a bold lattice pattern, and is framed at the neck and base with red horizontal stripes.
Hand-signed in black ink by the artisan on the base, this Takobozu doll stands as a charming example of classic Japanese craftsmanship.
