This charming vintage Naruko-style kokeshi is a beautiful example of traditional Japanese Tōhoku folk craftsmanship. Hand-turned from solid wood and delicately hand-painted, the doll features the classic Naruko characteristics: a rounded head, slender waisted body, and elegant floral decoration.

The sweetly smiling face is framed by stylized black hair with a topknot detail and soft red accents, giving her a gentle, joyful expression. The body is adorned with a vivid red chrysanthemum motif and flowing green leaves, set against the natural warm tone of the wood. Traditional red and green banding at the neck and base complete the design.

Japanese kokeshi dolls are traditional wooden figures, first made by craftsmen in northern Japan over 150 years ago. Originally sold as souvenirs in hot spring towns, they were believed to bring good luck, protect children, and even serve as spiritual charms. Each kokeshi is hand-carved from wood, with a simple yet elegant shape—a round head and a straight, limbless body. They are often painted with floral or geometric patterns and have calm, minimalist facial features. Over time, kokeshi evolved from folk toys into collectible art pieces, with different regions creating their own unique styles and designs.
