A matched pair of traditional Naruko-strain kokeshi dolls, presented as a married couple (Meoto Kokeshi). Crafted from turned wood, each pear-shaped figure features hand-painted facial details, concentric neck rings, and stylized chrysanthemum (kiku) motifs rendered in red and black ink. The Naruko style is historically distinguished by an inset neck mechanism that produces a subtle friction sound when rotated.
- Origin: Naruko, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan
- Technique: Woodturning and hand-painting
- Motif: Chrysanthemum (Kiku)
- Inclusions: Display stand, inscribed wooden plaque, original pamphlet, and storage box
Very good vintage condition with minor signs of age-appropriate wear consistent with traditional folk art artifacts.
