This exquisite red lacquer plate features a finely carved camellia flower, a symbol of elegance and seasonal beauty in Japanese culture. Crafted using the tsuishu technique, layers of cinnabar red lacquer are meticulously built up and then carved to reveal intricate designs with depth and precision.
Tsuishu (彫朱), or carved cinnabar lacquer, is a traditional Japanese art form with Chinese origins, prized for its rich color and tactile relief decoration. Each piece is a product of remarkable craftsmanship and patience, requiring multiple layers of lacquer and skilled hand-carving.
