This elegant vintage Japanese haori is made of silk and dyed using the traditional shibori technique. The overall color is a warm red, enriched by subtle tonal variation and a flowing decorative motif that gives the garment depth and movement.
Shibori is a traditional Japanese resist-dyeing technique in which the fabric is tied, folded, stitched, or bound before dyeing. This process creates distinctive textured patterns and slight irregularities—each piece is unique and reflects careful hand craftsmanship.
The haori has a beautiful, lightweight drape and can be worn as a short kimono jacket or styled open over modern clothing.
- Size: ca. 58 cm width, ca. 78 cm length
- Condition: Very good vintage condition overall. There is slight yellowing on the fabric at the back near the collar, visible in the last photo. This is not noticeable at first glance and only apparent upon closer inspection. Otherwise, the fabric is well preserved with no major damage.
Haori are traditionally worn open, making the fit flexible for various body types and easy to layer over both modern and traditional outfits. This haori features small inner loops on both sides designed to attach a haori-himo — a decorative cord used to gently fasten the jacket at the front while maintaining its elegant drape. Please note that the haori-himo is not included.
