This vintage modernist cast metal sculpture is titled "Prosperity" ("繁栄" / Han'ei) and was created by the acclaimed sculptor Sotaro Saegusa (1911–2006). A graduate of the Tokyo University of the Arts and a decorated national exhibition artist, Saegusa is celebrated for his elegant, minimalist animal figures.
The piece represents Tatsu (辰), the Japanese zodiac dragon. In Japanese culture, the tatsu is a benevolent water deity that symbolizes good fortune, protector energy, and rising prosperity. Saegusa captures this elemental spirit in a sleek, crescent-shaped form.
The complete set includes the metal dragon, its original dark plastic display base, the artist-signed wooden plaque, the original paper biography insert, and the presentation box.
Condition: statue in great condition, the display base shows some scratches (please see images for details).
