This is a beautiful "Dōjo" Kokeshi doll, handcrafted by the legendary master Sansaku Sekiguchi (1925–2018). Estimated to be from the early 1980s, this piece is a perfect example of modern Japanese woodcraft, blending traditional soul with a unique artistic style.
About the Artist:
Sansaku Sekiguchi is one of the most celebrated figures in the world of Kokeshi. He remains the only artist officially recognized by the Japanese government as a "Master of Creative Kokeshi." Over his long career, he earned the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award three times and even received the Medal of Honor (Oju) for his contribution to contemporary craftsmanship. His works are highly collectible.
Condition:
Very good vintage condition with no major signs of wear, there is a small discolouration on one cheek. Please review the photos to see the details. The doll comes with its original presentation box and information leaflet.
