This is a refined set of five vintage Japanese chopstick rests - Satsuma ware made in Iso Oniwa kiln (磯御庭焼), a traditional ceramic style from Kagoshima (former Satsuma Province). Each piece is hand-formed and decorated with a delicate floral motif with fine gold accents, giving the set a quiet elegance suitable for both everyday use and special occasions.

According to the enclosed original leaflet, Isoniwa-yaki originated in Kagoshima during the Edo period, closely connected to the Shimazu clan, the rulers of Satsuma. The kilns developed under the influence of tea ceremony culture, emphasizing simplicity, refinement, and harmony rather than excess decoration. Over time, Isoniwa-yaki absorbed techniques and aesthetics from other ceramic centers such as Kyoto and Seto, while maintaining its own regional character. The leaflet explains that the workshop aims to preserve tradition while continuing careful, sincere craftsmanship, producing pieces that quietly accompany daily life.
