This beautiful handcrafted wooden doll is a creation of the celebrated artist Kunio Miyagawa (born 1933, Gunma Prefecture). Miyagawa is a highly decorated master of the "Sosaku" (creative) Kokeshi style and a recipient of the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award, the highest honor in Japanese Kokeshi craftsmanship.
The kokeshi features a rich, deep red body adorned with delicately carved flying cranes (symbols of longevity and peace). The head has a smooth, dark brown finish with a serene, minimalist facial expression.
