Vintage Japanese Sosaku wooden kokeshi doll by Kazuo Takamizawa. Handcrafted from turned wood, it has a black bob haircut with a topknot, a painted face with closed eyes, and an orange body with carved front detailing revealing a patterned inner kimono. The base bears the artist's red hanko signature stamp.
Artisan note: Kazuo Takamizawa 高見沢一夫 / 高見澤一雄 (b. 1927) was a prominent postwar Sosaku (creative) kokeshi artist based in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture. Beginning his craft in his early twenties, he earned national acclaim, including the prestigious Prime Minister's Award in 1956. His work is celebrated for its serene facial expressions, balanced wooden forms, distinctive bobbed hairstyles, and detailed carved ornamentation.
