This large massive piece is an authentic example of Sōsaku (Creative) Kokeshi by the renowned artist Yoshio Otani (大谷良夫). Born in 1936, Otani is a distinguished figure in the modern Japanese craft movement. Otani’s work is characterized by a harmonious balance between natural wood grains and refined floral motifs. His designs often draw inspiration from the changing seasons, utilizing a combination of delicate painting and deep wood-carving textures. Otani is a recipient of the Minister of Agriculture Award, a high-level recognition within the Japanese craft world.

Condition: This vintage kokeshi shows some surface scratches and discoloration at the top of the head. The beautuful pattern remains in excellent condition (please see fotos for details).
