This exquisite wallet is made from Yūki-tsumugi (結城紬) silk — one of Japan’s most prized and oldest handwoven textiles, designated an Important Intangible Cultural Property and listed by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Originating from Yūki City (Ibaraki Prefecture) and Oyama City (Tochigi Prefecture), Yūki-tsumugi is renowned for its meticulously hand-spun silk threads and kasuri (ikat) weaving, where each thread is dyed by hand before weaving to create softly blurred, intricate geometric patterns.
This wallet showcases a beautiful interplay of traditional geometric motifs in deep brown, gold, and plum hues — symbolizing prosperity and harmony. The edges are finished with smooth black leather, and the interior is lined in luxurious red satin, adding a striking contrast to the refined exterior.
